What’s in a Name?

When I first created the name “Destination Dossier”, I wasn’t thinking how it could possibly evolve beyond it’s original purpose: a grid of momentos related to travel and discovery, and a place to dabble with my amateur photography skills. As someone who writes for a living, I’m a big fan of alliteration, and this phrase came to me as I was pairing up words in my head one day.

When I finally I decided to go all in on my own brand and re-haul my site, my designer (and dear friend) Marta led me on a discovery call to dig deeper into the meaning of this phrase and how I wanted to present myself to the world. I didn’t want it to come across as another basic travel blog, so at one point I was considering canning the name altogether. It was after this call that I took some time to do a double take on the name in its evolved state, analyzing each word both in isolation and together.

The “new” iteration of Destination Dossier is one-part journal, one-part multidisciplinary creative studio. To me, a destination implies travel, journey, momentum—nothing static. But on metaphorical level, it speaks to aspirations, goals, and purpose. This is something that I’d love to be able to support my future clients through my creative services.

Finally, the word dossier. Beyond being a fancy french word (ngl, this was a huge part of the appeal), a dossier is a collection of documents about a particular person, event, or subject per the Oxford dictionary. So it not only pairs nicely with my journal (and this Substack), but it’s also a home to highlight my multidisciplinary work combining various elements, whether that be content creation, content strategy, and events, to tell a cohesive story.

How does this phrase come across to you?
